Beverly Hills Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss delivered a presentation on Nov. 17 to the Beverly Hills Rotary Club, offering a vision for the future of education in Beverly Hills.
Board of Education President Rachelle Marcus and Vice President Judy Manouchehri also attended the event.
Cherniss invited the audience to consider how rapidly the world is changing and what it means to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities ahead. He emphasized that BHUSD is committed to building classrooms that promote creativity, curiosity, adaptability and real-world learning.
“We are not simply educating students for today. We are preparing them for a world that is evolving quickly,” Cherniss said. “At BHUSD, our mission is to equip every student to lead, innovate and thrive in careers that do not yet exist. This requires curriculum that sparks curiosity, technology that is used thoughtfully and the kind of critical thinking that AI cannot replace.”
Throughout his remarks, Cherniss highlighted several strengths that distinguish BHUSD. They include small class sizes that allow students to feel seen and supported, state-of-the-art learning facilities and a wide range of program offerings. BHUSD currently serves 2,900 students across four schools and offers more than 100 elective courses along with over 40 college and career pathway opportunities.
Cherniss also reflected on the partnership between the school district and the broader Beverly Hills community. Families have long been drawn to Beverly Hills for the three pillars, which are world-class police, fire and schools. Together, the pillars create an environment where students can grow, discover interests and realize potential, Cherniss said.
The presentation concluded with a conversation about the future of artificial intelligence and its role in student learning. Cherniss encouraged the community to think deeply about how AI can support education while also affirming the importance of human connection, empathy and creativity.
