A 23-year-old man was arrested for felony driving under the influence on Nov. 30 in West Hollywood after he caused a collision that resulted in another car crashing into a building.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. in the 8200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, just east of Sweetzer Avenue. The suspect, Brenthon Rodriguez, was driving eastbound when he struck the rear of another vehicle traveling in the same direction, said Sgt. Omar Luevano, with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station. The force of the impact caused the other driver to lose control and crash into a vacant building that formerly housed the Norah restaurant at 8279 Santa Monica Blvd. Deputies arrived and noticed Rodriguez showed signs of alcohol impairment, Luevano said. After failing field sobriety tests, Rodriguez was arrested and booked at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station. He was released later the same day on his own recognizance, pending upcoming court proceedings.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the building complained of pain but declined medical treatment, Luevano said.
The building struck by the vehicle is undergoing interior renovations. The city of West Hollywood yellow-tagged the building, which was boarded, until the building is determined to be structurally sound and a permit is issued.
