A man was stabbed and injured on Nov. 29 while walking to his parked car on Stanley Avenue after leaving a coffeehouse in the 7600 block of Melrose Avenue.
The victim sought medical attention on his own after the attack and called police from the hospital. Officers searched the neighborhood where the crime was reported but were unable to find the suspect, who the victim said appeared to be homeless.
The stabbing occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. The victim told police he left a Starbucks at the corner of Melrose and Stanley avenues and returned to his car when a man walked up and attacked him without provocation. The suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim three times. The victim also sustained two additional wounds to his left hand while defending himself. The suspect then fled the scene.
The victim got into his vehicle and drove to the Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center on Cadillac Avenue. He was treated for a one-inch laceration to his shoulder, a puncture wound below his left ear and an approximately half-inch laceration to the lower left side of his neck.
The victim could not provide any description of the suspect, according to the police report. Detectives are following up with the victim and are searching for security camera footage in the area and witnesses.
